Marketing via twitter is a science in itself. Or at least EFFECTIVE marketing via Twitter. It's easy to start Twitter but quite another thing to build up quality people who follow you. There are automated methods for doing this that can certainly help.

Sadly these are all paid programs. There used to be free methods of getting mass amounts of followers on Twitter but the various API products have been changed through abuse and now only paid systems exist.

One of the quickest way to get a whole load of people is to firstly ensure you are providing good tweets. Sounds basic, but even commerical companies suffer when all they do is simply bleet on about how wonderful they are without ever changing the subject.

Especially if your business is more on the serious side of things (say accounting) why not mix things up now and again by commenting on the lastest pop culture to keep people subscribed to your streams. It doesn't mean you have to go overboard, but just give your followers a reason to follow you.

Internet marketing on Twitter is harder than providing daily updates and is a fine balance when it comes to not overdoing the stream but constant updates. Try and limit the amount of updates you do or you will find people dropping you.

Also try and resist the urge to just advertise in every tweet. It's also nice to include pictures of the office or the people behind the twitter marketing so people feel there is a human there
